
1. Get a nuanced understanding of psychotherapy and what it means to be a therapist.
– we’ll deconstruct the dominant discourse around therapy, what people think therapy is, what we have been taught in our textbooks (that are mostly written in the western context), what we want therapy to look like, how do we look at clients, what it means to be a client in a therapy room and we’ll also deconstruct what it means to be a therapist, the role of the therapist and the therapeutic process.
2. Learn to conceptualize cases using the social justice lens.
– This will shape how we look at our clients, which is an essential component of building the therapeutic relationship.
3. Understand the critical role of the emotions and the nervous system (both the client’s and the therapist’s) in the therapy process.
